LA native Gavin Turek is following up her Good Look For You Remix EP with stellar new single "Birdie Bees."
As we've come to expect from Turek, "Birdie Bees" is a funky-as-hell throwback to big hair and even bigger pants. Despite the feel good 70's vibe, "Birdie Bees" is quite a heavy track. Turek was thinking about how deeply rooted our prejudices are when she wrote the track and had this to say about the lyrics and what she is trying to communicate;
"Whether you consider yourself a "good person" or not, we are socialized to view and treat poor people a certain way, black people a certain way, mentally disabled people a certain way, and the list goes on. It's scary. We all know the pangs of being completely misunderstood or unseen. Yet, we so easily base our interactions off of our stigmas and preconceived notions. This is my way of reminding myself and others to look deeper, listen more, and most importantly to continue loving yourself and moving forward in spite of social pain. Again, my producer Chris Hartz, gave me the perfect musical landscape to grieve and also offer some hope.”
Not only is this a great tune, but all the money made from the sales of "Birdie Bees" will be donated to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, which is a great initiative from Turek.
