The second single off the upcoming album titled This Land takes Gary Clark Jr.'s song writing in a different direction. With big chords, lightly garnished with vibrant tremolo guitar licks, "I Walk Alone" makes a statement almost as defiant as the tracks title. Gary shows off his vocal capabilities reaching a sky high pitch in his signature effortlessly cool manner that's only mirrored by the laid-back yet assertive groove of the tune.
The layered vocals towards the end of the track add an element of soul to this collage of rock, blues and R&B. The production of the track is superb, with a well placed guitar solo sitting in the middle of the mix, aiding a building climax of the song as the layers intertwine and keep you listening over and over again.
This Land already promises to be one of the best albums of 2019 and the recent release of "I Walk Alone" is just another reason why.
