Why do we like this?
I've only just stumbled upon L.A. artist Gallant, and I've already fallen in love with the crooner's ambient soundscapes. Very much in the vein of How To Dress Well and The Weeknd, his latest single, "Manhattan" is literally spine tingling.
Produced by Felix Snow (SZA, Chippy Nonstop), "Manhattan" is all murky guitars and soft handclaps, creating a brooding atmosphere that sucks you in. And when Gallant's epic, ethereal vocals kick in, you have something truly sublime.
Interestingly enough, the track is only tagged with one word on Gallant's SoundCloud page; 1996. Add in emotive lyrics with references to VCRs and Super 8 film, and "Manhattan" comes off with a nostalgic vibe.
This is comedown music at its best.
