Why do we like this?
Eureka! I found it. The best collection of hip-hop-inspired jazz this side of the Internet. Check this beat in the background. That Breakfast at Tiffany's sample. Tell me it's not fucking perfect. "The Wild Thing" is a dope track from Gadget, founder of Millennium Jazz, a London-based label.
Gadget presents a wicked surprise with Millennium; the album is chock full of hip-hop mashed beats against jazz samples and occasional sweet little raps. This track comes off the 27th -- seriously, you read that right, the 27th -- album brought to you by the Jazz Jousters, a collective associated with Millennium and comprised of jazz-loving musicians across the globe. This album specifically looks at the life and music of Oscar Peterson, but there's other albums inspired by the likes of Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis. Check out the impressive list on Bandcamp. As for this, I'm personally loving the hip-hop duo Combine Vibes. Reminds me of something Nujabes would have put together.
As I mentioned, the Bandcamp is full of downloads, some free some not. So much great music it's overwhelming. You won't know what to do with yourself. Just don't foret to show Millennium Jazz love on Facebook.
