This is a perfect song to dance to, but it's an even more perfect song to bike to. I had the good fortune of discovering this song right before a bike ride back home from work, and quickly scrambled to make sure it was on my iPod for the journey home. Future Islands already delivers a steady and noticeable beat in their music, but Vince Clarke (of Depeche Mode) decided to amp it up just a little bit but adding some synths, piano, and -- let's not forget -- horns.
Samuel Herring's voice slides in perfectly, providing just the right amount of originality in this enchanting remix. There's something inherently epic about this -- but I tend to feel that way about all of Future Islands music to begin with. It's the sense of urgency, like the story that just needs to be told, but with this, the song just needs to go through your ears. And the re-visit with a slightly altered sound guides itself on a journey through your ears.
It's magnificent.
In honor of Future Islands return to New York City (their last show in April at Webster Hall sold out quicker than any show at that venue I've ever been to or seen), I present you with this track to help get you in the mood to dance. They'll be performing alongside Omar Souleyman, Mas Ysa and Operators, on August 7 at the House of Vans. The show is sold out, but if you already RSVP'ed, you're in for a serious treat.
