Why do we like this?
I don't normally get behind this particular brand of indie pop, as it can run the risk of being far too volatile and young -- like they'll burn themselves out before musical maturity. So to save from being musically miffed, I usually let tracks/bands like this come and go back into the obscurity from whence they came.
However, "All Those Friendly People" is right at the borderline of finding itself a real identity. It's as if Funeral Suits may already know which direction they will grow, thus, promise is in the horizon.
In a way, I am reminded of my past love affair I had with The Libertines, but that also burnt itself out eventually....
Anyway, let's focus on Funeral Suits. Brian James (vocal, guitar, synth), Mik McKeogh (bass, synth), Greg McCarthy (drums) all come from Dubiln. They've already opened for the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Passion Pit, and The Maccabees, and they've got a proper amount aplomb to push up and over similar talents.
"All Those Friendly People" will see an official release on March 19, with a video soon to follow, and a full album due out in April. So here's your tip off if you want to latch on to these guys right from the get go.
I like this track... it makes me feel hopeful, despite the slightly melodramatic lyrics, yet it's possibly this very combo that gives the "All Those Friendly People" a great balance. It's realistic, honest, with out a hint of pretentiousness. Plus, it's always nice to hear the accent retained in the vocals. Lolz.
