Why do we like this?
If you're familiar with The Dum Dum Girls, Vivian Girls, and/or Crystal Stilts, then you must surely (unknowingly) know of Frankie Rose. She was an integral part in each of those bands, and since then she has branched out to display her singular raw talent. And so far sooo good.
Her first single, "Know Me," from her debut album Interstellar is, well.... stellar. Right from the beginning, I was captivated with a classic 80s dance beat and ethereal electric guitar. Then Frankie started singing and I'm pretty sure I melted a bit. Her vocals are so milky and velvety that I felt like I could drink this song. Ugh.
The rest of the track is just one classic girly dance pop anthem. Infectious hooks, a melodic atmosphere, and just short enough in length to leave you wanting more. The construction of this single is gorgeous and lush with its drawn-out synth, wobbly electric guitar, funky disco bass, and constant danceable drum beat. "Know Me" has the potential to be a timeless track.
If this is just a teaser of what's to come, I can only imagine what the rest of the album sounds like. I can already feel the impatience building up in anticipation for the release of Interstellar, which drops on February 21st.
