There's something about the French language that oozes sex appeal. No matter whether it's being spoken or sung, the language gives me goosebumps, much like this dreamy chiller from Francois & The Atlas Mountains.
"Coucou" is the beguiling new single from the French-British act and the first taste of their forthcoming album,Banana Bleue. There's a slight feeling of Americana to this one, with the lightly strummed strings, driving percussion and lyrics about a failed relationship reminiscent of the hallmarks of the genre. What sets it apart is the lush vocals of Francois, whose French singing creates a warm glow to the track. Speaking about the song he had this to say:
I hate this word, ‘coucou’ (which loosely translates as ‘hey there’ in French) because, for me, it expresses a form of indifferent, slightly fake naivety. What’s even more absurd is when it comes from someone with whom you were once madly in love.
Banan Bleue will be released early next year and is somewhat of a nomadic album, recorded across Europe in a variety of cities, including Berlin, Athens and Paris.
