Why do we like this?
Who is Forest Swords? Well, he goes by the name of Matthew Barnes, a Liverpudlian who was the toast of the blogosphere in 2010 with the release of his debut EP Dagger Paths. Since then, there hasn't been a great deal of activity from the experimental producer, but this year sees the release of his long awaited album Engravings, with second single "The Weight In Gold" getting me very excited.
Opening with menacing synths that rumble like an approaching storm, "The Weight In Gold" is dark, foreboding dubby goodness that echos The Knife and James Blake. Organic percussion, distorted vocals, and an Asian influence combine to create five minutes of downtempo, thought provoking electronica.
