Well written, interesting pop music seems to have taken a bit of a back seat in Australia recently with the influx of electronic, but thankfully there are still a few bands flying the flag. One of them is Melbourne five-piece
Foreign/National, who, after testing the waters with a number of demos earlier this year, recently released their first official single.
The opening taste from the band's forthcoming debut EP, "Paris" is a catchy, likable song that will have you grinning in no time. The band employ a number of musical disciplines in their craft, with delayed, echoing vocals glimmering over psychedelic glimmers and detuned jazz chords. This combination gives (what would be) a simple pop song more than a touch of intrigue.
Foreign/National have shown plenty of promise here (and on the aforementioned demos which you can check out
here), and I'm looking forward to hearing a lot more from this classy act.
