Why do we like this?
I love it when a band sends over a piece of music that just sits perfectly with me from the first listen -- a track that doesn't need a second or third listen to sink in, but grabs your attention immediately. This was the exactly the case when I heard Foreign/National's single "Paris" a few months back.
I obviously wasn't the only new fan of the Melbourne-based quintet; their official debut (they released a couple of demos earlier) reached the dizzying heights of #7 on the Hypem charts (as well as clocking up over 70k SoundCloud streams!). Now, they're back with brand new single "All Honesty," and Indie Shuffle is lucky enough to bring you the premiere.
I'm pleased to report that the same initial attraction that "Paris" offered is evident again on "All Honesty." From the get-go, we're treated to a slick, catchy, pop jam with plenty of quirk to keep things interesting. The band claims a variety of musicians and artists as inspiration, and that range of flavors is showcased throughout. Including swing-styled breakdowns and a psych-tinged outro, their "nostalgia pop" style includes grainy production that filters through. Very cool stuff.
Foreign/National will have plenty of more of their nostalgia pop on the way, with an EP scheduled for April.
