I wrote about UK duo Folded Like Fabric a few months ago, and since then they have released their gorgeous debut EP I Tried via Beauvoir Records, which I know had been brewing for a while.
The release consists of four tracks which show the dexterity of Connor Sims and Jay Mooncie's relationship with music, offering an insight into their idiosyncratic world of sharply contemporary pop songs laced with jazz inflections and melancholic vocal lines.
"You Said" is a pulsating, rhythmic track which builds with changing tempos, ambient sounds, and constant melodic and instrumentation changes, all the while having Sims' tender interweaving vocals creating a soft, soulful balance overall.
The song moves from tender string, into electronic synth driven segments, firmly placing these guys into a modern singer/songwriter realm and assuring me that Folded Like Fabric is undoubtedly an act to watch in the future.
