Why do we like this?
I'll be honest here, I hadn't heard of Fol Chen prior to today, but it was one of those moments where the cover art was interesting enough for me to click play. Fol Chen is a Los Angeles quintet that formed back in 2009, and "I.O.U" is the second single from their third full length, The False Alarms.
They describe their genre as "opera house," a name lifted from Malcolm McLaren but recoined as beat-driven electronica with grand, operatic gestures and lyrically dense storytelling. It's definitely not your usual pop piece amongst all the choppiness, but having said that, it has a very rich and addictive melody that works cleverly over a progressive beat.
The album will be available on the March 19, 2013, and expect much the same music to come from it.
