A Beautiful Collage/Melancholic Riot
I am a stickler when it comes to multimedia pieces — artwork that only works when all the pieces come together, artwork that in its totality tells a story that single pieces can only hint at.
"Don't Judge Me" is a melancholic powerhouse-collaboration between singer-songwriters FKA Twigs, Fred Again, and Headie One. The song approaches themes of discrimination, prejudice, and the mistreatment of African American society through a beautiful yet melancholic mix of FKA Twigs' vocals overlayed with an almost-haunting instrumental backdrop. It's an amazingly well-crafted song, giving it the force needed to confront said themes with efficacy. (One need only look at the lyrical rap break.)
Beautiful in its approach and hauntingly real in its understanding of what it stands for — "Don't Judge Me" is a diamond of alt R&B and art-pop.
