"Firstworld" is the dreamy self-titled debut single from Miami producer Kris Alvarez.
The debut channels chillwave nostalgia, emphasising the ‘chill’ with a relaxed and dreamy track reminiscent of early Washed Out. Alvarez’s shoegazey vocals carry the dripping 80’s synths in an expansive soundscape that feels familiar and softly textured. The track’s sentiment is equal parts love and dissatisfaction, drawing on simple human interactions that are intrinsically relatable to create a song with beautiful feeling.
Upon writing the single, Alvarez came to the realisation that he often writes about what he considers first world problems; "Firstworld" the song and the moniker came naturally. The track was written over a particularly difficult weekend for Alvarez as escape from his previous musical project Sigh Kicks. The track, written alongside two other songs (hopefully to be released late 2017) command a darker aesthetic that his previous project couldn't reach.
