First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo made up by sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg. The pair are remarkable for a number of reasons, most obviously their age: while the two are only 20 and 17, they had already emerged on the scene in 2007, with a few songs posted to Myspace. By my calculation, that put them at 17 and 14 on debut.
They began making waves quickly after their EP
Drunken Trees was released in 2008. Along the way they recorded a number of covers, including "When I Grow Up," by Fever Ray and "Tiger Mountain Peasant" by Fleet Foxes. In turn, they've established themselves as a folk-duo set on winning over hearts, "not the charts."
While their approach can become occasionally redundant (each song begins to sound the same when the harmonization of the vocals is almost always at the same interval), the cover featured in today's Song of the Day is without a doubt worth sharing.
