Fiji Blue belongs on the radio. “I Should’ve Told You” is better than some of the songs I hear DJs play seemingly every hour. It reminds me of something popular acts like the Chainsmokers or LANY would drop.
The song has a chill electronic sound with smooth baritone vocals that melt into the other instruments. The Los Angeles band describes their style as “sad boy chill house.” The band also uses repetition nicely in the verses and chorus. Usually in pop songs that can get annoying fast, but in this song, it feels more thought-provoking because it shows he can’t get that thought out of his head.
There’s a theme of regret in his words, but also a sense of maturity since he can see when it's best for a relationship to end although it hurts. It’s pretty much summed up in the heartfelt lines, “You’re the only love that I’ve ever known / But we turned into a flower that never grows.”
