I feel slightly conflicted posting this track. While new music featuring The Notorious B.I.G. (even if it's just sampling his verse from the bootlegged 1993 freestyle track, "Mumbling And Whispering") does get the inner hip-hop kid inside me excited, the announcement from Biggie's former wife, Faith Evans, that she has an entire album of duets between the two ready to release crushes my soul somewhat.
Two decades on from his murder, Evans' decision to releases The King & I just doesn't sit right, even if this first offering, "NYC," offers a nostalgic throwback to the glory days of hip-hop. While Biggie and Jadakiss anchor the old school beat, Evans does little than croon in the background about her beau and the city that never sleeps, rendering her presence almost obsolete when sandwiched between the two rappers verses.
No doubt many Biggie fans will be excited about this track and the forthcoming album, and while this track would be great as a one-off, an entire album of Biggie and Evans is certainly something we don't need.
