As a whole, I got bored of electronic music with wispy vocals about three years ago - so it's both a surprise and a delight when something really grabs me.
Exhibitionist is multi-instrumentalist Kirsty Tickle, from Toowoomba in Queensland. Her musical scope is vast, having previously played in Little Scout, toured with The John Steel Singers, and now a part of noise act Party Dozen. "Hands" is her debut single.
Tickle's airy vocals set a compelling, vulnerable tone. Beneath that, though, is what really caught my attention. From tingly steel drums and saxophones to flutes and bulging ambient moments, so many tones come and go before you know it - but you certainly feel it. The subtle shifts not only invites repeated listens, but with each new discovery, you fall under its spell that little bit more.
There are thousands and thousands of songs that mimic this vibe, but throw 'em against the wall and they rarely stick. Exhibitionist, meanwhile, found some superglue along the way. I'm looking very forward to hearing more.
