UK indie rockers Everything Everything have dropped surprise EP, A Deeper Sea, this week. The four track collection includes two new tunes "The Mariana" and "Breadwinner," Tom Veks' remix of "Ivory Tower," and a live recording of Neil Young's "Don't Let It Bring You Down."
The highlight of the EP is the bombastic "Breadwinner," a hyperactive explosion of synths, guitars and Jonathan Higgs' quirky vocals. It has all the hallmarks of a track from the mid-2010 indie scene, with an almost math-rock level of guitar work interwoven with frantic drumming and a fun, catchy chorus.
The film clip, also created by Higgs, features a crude 3D model of Higgs in an assortment of poses as the lyrics to the track appear on screen. He said of the film clip:
The idea was inspired by a line in the song; "walk into the wall like you're an NPC", an npc (non-player character) is what you call every character in a game that is controlled by the AI. Depending on the quality of the animation and coding, NPCs are quite often seen moving repetitively in loops, walking in circles, bumping into objects, or staring lifelessly out of the screen. I wanted to make myself into a really badly made character, corrupted programming trying to dance.
A Deeper Sea is available now.
