I wrote about Estère and her track "I Spy" last year, and today she announces her self-titled debut album release, which she self-recorded and produced with her MPC named Lola.
The seven-track album contains a mixture of bass, synth, drums, vocal harmonies, keyboard, whistles, claps, kazoo, desk taps, and anything in-between, which she then layers with rhythms and melodies to create a unique sound that adheres to a genre described as "electric blue witch hop."
Following up from her collaboration with Oddisee in 2013 that saw three tracks released, the last three weeks have been eventful. She's released the official video for "I Spy," was the opening act for Erykah Badu and UK trip-hop band Morcheeba, and has now released her album.
This is the fifth track on the album, titled "Cruel Charlie," and remains a favorite of mine. The album is available for free download on Bandcamp or you can stream it on SoundCloud.
