Why do we like this?
Back in early January, we covered "Shine Like Me," the first music released by Sydney act Ernest Ellis in well over two years. A really interesting change-up from their previous releases, it left me intrigued to hear what more they had in store on the band's upcoming third album Cold Desire. With the record's release date drawing closer, we've been given another indication as to what to expect, with Indie Shuffle lucky enough to bring you the album's second single "Inside Outside".
Space was highlighted as an aspect the group had focused on heavily during the writing and recording process, and this is incredibly evident on "Inside Outside." For the majority of proceedings, a smooth backing arrangement is utilized, with Ellis' unhindered vocals made all the more expansive by the fading, echoing effects used. The instrumental passages (most notably the track's culmination) are a definite highlight, with sax and harmonica giving this a somewhat Americana feel. The vocals are so important to "Inside Outside," with the repetition of the song's title and the double-tracking adding so much to that feeling of spaciousness that they have achieved here.
Cold Desire will be released March 7 via Spunk Records. You can pre-order it here!
