Although she's been busy with Metric and Broken Social Scene, it's been over ten years since Emily Haines has released an album with The Soft Skeleton. Since their Choir of the Mind's official September 15 release, I've been pretending I'm a lot more somber than I am to set the right mood for this very soothing, haunting album.
"Fatal Gift" is one of my favorites off the album, perhaps only for the opening line of "Haven't we made enough for a living wage?" because no, we haven't, but at least you've caught my attention. Luckily, the rest of the song (and the album) maintains that grasp to the point where I wish I could just ascend to the same astral plane that seems to have been the source of these pensive, hypnotic sounds.
