Sounds like:
Burial,
Four Tet,
Jacques Greene
Why do we like this?
We featured a couple of tracks from Emerse last year; the beatmaker immediately captured our attention with his standout production on "Clouds" and "Closer." Last time we heard from him, he was honing his craft in Berlin, but he's since returned to his hometown of Melbourne, where he's set up his own studio.
This shift has not slowed him down, and he's just released a brand new single that provides us with more insight into the talented producer's repertoire. This time around, he's channeled the bass-heavy themes that British electronic producers like Four Tet and Burial like to employ. Complete with skittish percussion and shadowy vocal samples, it's the darkest (and best) work we've heard from him to date.
Now settled back in Australia, expect to hear a lot more from Emerse in the near future. Make sure to check in at his SoundCloud to enjoy his past work, too.
