Why do we like this?
I can comfortably assert that Emancipator is one of my favorite artists from the last three years. Since discovering his music, I think I've listened to Soon It Will Be Cold Enough (2006) and Safe In The Steep Cliffs (2010) about a hundred times each, mostly late at night while road tripping or riding the bus.

So when an email announcing his 3rd full-length album arrived in my inbox today, I nearly flipped my shit. Opening this single up on Soundcloud was like a kid unwrapping his Christmas presents -- an experience many of you can relate to when it comes to new songs from your favorite artists.

"Minor Cause" is the first song off Dusk To Dawn, available on January 29th. To quote the press release:

Throughout "˜Minor Cause' Appling's beats and piano draw you forward, before Goldberg's beautiful strings are introduced, raising the urgency and bringing the track to its crescendo. It's a fitting lead single, illustrating the inimitable and ever-engaging blend of beat, harmony and melody that underpin Emancipator's music.

How does that translate in real life? Well, it basically ends up with a track that's clearly recognizable, and not necessarily breaking down any frontiers. I can't say I'm disappointed about that, but I sure hope that some of his other singles take things in a crazy cool direction (whichever way that may be).
