"Hallucinating" marks an entirely new direction for classical trained pianist and songwriter Elohim.
While much of her material, including her self-titled EP, deals in murky synths and dreamy R&B-fueled melodies and FKA Twigs-like pageantry, "Hallucinating" is something else.
A vibrant synth backs Elohim's seductive pop delivery before a mariachi breakdown turns the song on its head. A spoken word verse follows before a violin makes an appearance.
There's a lot going on with "Hallucinating," but somehow Elohim makes all the genre bending work, with each different instrument and sound working together for one of the best songs you'll hear this week.
