Australian artist Elizabeth Rose returns to form with the catchy, groove-laden “Shoulda Coulda Woulda,” co-written and produced with Grammy-winning beatmaker M-Phazes. It shows off a really different side to the artist's musical palette, and I'm loving it.
Musically, the track's spotlight shines firmly on the rhythm. That big, punchy, funk-inspired beat ties the whole track together. Each phrase is led by the demanding rhythm, and as it waxes and wanes, the whole atmosphere changes. As the track nears the chorus, the beat stretches out - and with it, the entire feel softens and begins to fill.
Thematically, the track reportedly focuses on her journey from "reflection to motivation" - "Shoulda, coulda woulda, but you didn't, now it's time to turn it 'round," she sings.
"Shoulda Woulda Coulda" is out now. It will feature on forthcoming full-length debut album Intra, due out March on Midnight feature via Inertia.
