I first discovered Sudanese/Scottish singer-songwriter Eliza Shaddad supporting Dustin Tebbutt at a recent London gig, and was blown away by her intimate brand of cynical folk.
"You For Me,” taken from her debut EP,Waters, is a soothing lullaby born on a gentle breeze, propelled by compelling percussion and hypnotic guitar lines, and pulled togetherby a crystalline timbre.
Having just signed the forthcoming Waters, produced by Ben Howard’s Mercury Prize-nominated producer Chris Bon, to the lovely folk at Beatnik (alongside a collaborative stint withClean Bandit on such jewels as “Birch” and “UK Shanty”) Shaddad is a woman who chooses her company well.
What’s more, with a recent play on the prestigious BBC Radio 1 Introducingshow, and a coveted win at Amazing Radio's New Artist Audition Poll, she’s surely set to take this summer by storm.
