Anyone familiar with the unique vocals and styles of Eliza Rickman will immediately be smitten with “Riches and Wonder.” Everyone else should take a peak, seriously.
She's known as much for choices that border the odd as for her brilliant, trembling voice, Rickman grabs early and grabs tight on this one. The songs sounds like it could be from a Disney movie, the overall mood is old timey with the strings and deep musicianship from Bischoff, but upon closer listening, the song belongs somewhere better. Not that there’s anything wrong with Disney princesses, they’re just not in touch with what’s actually happening with human beings.
Rickman is in touch, and articulates the feel for it very well. It’s like the princess ten years after the movie, when she realizes that happily ever after isn’t really what she wanted, all while acquiring a taste for wine.
