Why do we like this?
You might not know electronic producer and L.A. transplant eLan, but there is good reason you should. This solemn beat afficionado has been quietly perfecting his craft for years, releasing free tracks on Tumblr or as part of the Wedidit! collective until Modeselektor took notice and put one of his tracks on a compilation. This led to young eLan producing a project for German label Monkeytown. A few months later, we have the Bleep Bloop Brrrmmp EP, part one of a trilogy.
Most of my musical knowledge revolves around hip hop and beats (plus, eLan is also a close personal friend), so I feel I can best sum up the attractive traits of this project as follows: the bass is deep and grumbling, the synths are gritty and visceral, the drums stutter, and overall it's a great listen.
This is just the beginning for eLan!
