There’s always been something reggae-inspired in the magic that El Michels Affair produces, and with the addition of Liam Bailey, this latest track just hits all the warmest, woozy, jazzy, most sun-filled spots. It’s slow and stirring, taking the big city feel of New York brass and keys and condensing it to its bare bones, the roots of late-night soul winding their way up gently through the soles of your feet, flowing languidly through your torso and limbs, and coming to rest comfortably in your chest where they belong.
It’s a song for swaying to in the kitchen during the small hours of the morning over a half-drunk cup of coffee, staring out the window and watching the city below you slowly come to life one questionable decision at a time.
It’s sensual and smooth and comfortable, but with just enough edge to keep you guessing (as all the best things should be.)
