Why do we like this?

Combine a 1970s rock riff with a modern day pop or electronica beat, and you’ve got a good idea of the sound Eddy Yang creates on “Split the Night.” After a first listen I wasn’t quite sure if the two go together, but I gave it another chance and warmed to it.

Yang’s vocals are distinctive, although at times I find them a little stretched, and the guitar part won me over as well. There’s a touch of a folk or even country quality to the riff which reappears at intervals throughout the song. The lyrics suggest trying to relax on a night out by just being yourself. Put the two together and you get a very upbeat, happy track.

Yang is an emerging artist based in LA, so there’s not a great deal of background on him yet. His website or Facebook page will let you keep up to date with new releases. He hasn’t announced any shows so far, but hopefully they’ll be on the way.
