Why do we like this?
“Dunce” is dense, thick with heavy bass laden moments arranged exceedingly well over the top of a steady, head nodding percussion.
The intro takes me back to very old Misfits. Think “She,” or “Cough/Cool.” The riffs set a mood of underlying aggression that might just be dangerous. This feeling is confirmed and entrenched with the vocals. It sounds like Isaac Brock when he’s really getting after it, but less refined than Modest Mouse, more like Ugly Casanova. And, like side project Brock, the artist with only his own expectations, “Dunce” is absolutely its own thing, and something very much worth checking out.
