Why do we like this?
Now that YouTube has turned bands with heretofore lukewarm responses into online video superstars, perhaps its time for a new platform to send artists into the interweb stratosphere. We are, mind you, dealing in the medium that can topple an entire government.
Enter London's Echo Lake and their if-you-missed-it-where have-you-been Microsoft Kinect video "Young Silence" (scroll down for video). The video was directed by filmmaker Dan Nixon and is the first video created on the Microsoft Kinect platform. A little recap since we're a bit late adding to the online frenzied discourse: a London band with a wholly refreshing and gleefully aural take on shoegaze and the recent influx of dreamwave find themselves sitting at the head of the music blogosphere table, most likely bemused they even received an invitation. They were instantly lauded before they had graced a stage, and their take on an arguably saturated scene is what put them on the map. This is not the ambient pop of yore.
Most narratives of bands instantly celebrated online have been all too brief, ending in near vanishment. But as a member of the online music community, we're excited to see what Echo Lake has in store for us. Our ears are perked, and our minds are open.
Where you can catch Echo Lake: well, across the pond for now, but with all the exaltation of their Young Silence EP, that shouldn't last long.
