Why do we like this?
Victorian Motivations
It all starts with that Victorian riff, the piano jam, the great motivational intro for the presidential speech.
"A Message to Myself" is exactly that, a message to you as the listener carried through the grungy, deep-roots London accent of Murry Matravers. It's not every day that the ideals and themes of motivation get blended into a grungy alt-pop sound that would be welcome in any dark and dank club.
The song itself instrumentally explores the combined sounds of classical music and a strong electronic combo of samples, noises, reverbs, and beautiful chaos. It also takes time to pull back and create a softer earnest sound, but it never shy's away from its main plan — to make you feel good about yourself.
