Things I like: sharp percussive rhythms, gorgeous ambient melodies, interesting vocals. Luckily for me, this track has it all.
Sydney duo East of Here is as fresh as it comes -- they reportedly only formed in late 2014. It's clear that they know what they're doing. Debut single "Where You Came From" opens with big, deep percussive beats, but it quickly tapers into something far more gentle. The ambient soundscape is topped by sparse guitars, delicate percussion rhythms, and a compelling melody.
There's something utterly pained about this track. Each beat somehow tugs at your heartstrings, stirring up feelings of longing and loneliness. I love how the track manages to capture sadness within such a graceful exterior -- it's so captivating.
A really impressive debut from East of Here! I'm looking forward to hearing more from these guys throughout 2015.
