Why do we like this?
With news filtering through about the new Volcano Choir album on its way, I'm on a bit of a Justin Vernon high this week. I find it a little coincidental that I'd be sent this new track from Australian singer/songwriter Dustin Tebbutt -- you'll understand when you listen to it. Having relocated to Sweden for a couple of years, he has crafted an EP (due out later this year) which draws from his experiences in the cold and isolation, but also the beauty, of life below freezing point.
"The Breach" is the first release from this EP, and Bon Iver fans will swoon as soon as the first chords kick in. It's a stunning single, made more impressive by the fact that Tebbutt also mixed and produced it. Despite his Scandinavian surroundings, the track gives off a warmth which drives from his pitched vocals and deft guitar work.
This is the sort of music which transports you away to a fire-lit wood cabin in a forest, and I for one cannot wait to hear more. Download "The Breach" for free on Tebbutt's SoundCloud, where you can hear more from this talented musician.
