Why do we like this?
All you need to know in one sentence: Deadboy took Drake's "Fireworks," put it in a blender, and smoothed it out until all it became was a one beautifully slow house repetition of Rihanna's short "Oh, all I see is fireworks" that lulls you into a musical delightful coma.
While remix websites like Hypem are turning out tracks (tricks?) like the Chinese are turning out babies, and the Internet continues to produce a plethora of "DJs" that are just taking a song, toying around with it and putting it up on YouTube as original music, it now takes true skill to actually change a song to the point that it's fresh and sheer genius.
Perfectly minimal, this "Fireworks" remix is one that is both appropriate for the club or chilling out on the couch, a point my friend Alex alerted me to. It's a testament to how universally good it is.
Deadboy is an unsigned South East London DJ who's been around since 2005. Even though this track dropped about a year ago, it is definitely a demonstration of greatness so you should be following Deadboy all over the Internet to await his first full length. Check him out on Facebook, SoundCloud (I'd recommend giving the Mary Anne Hobbs mix a listen), and Tumblr.
