We all know the routine: a once-upon-a-time underground hero loses all their cred as their music grows to cater for more and more to sales; less and less to the love of the music. Many bands have met their demise after daring to live in the sunshine and disconnecting with their core audience.
Well, now it seems that Drake is attempting to take both the opposite and same paths. He's disconnecting with his core audience, but this is likely to increase his credibility and decrease his sales.
With this new track sampling Jai Paul (and our bonus, sampling SBTRKT), as well as production from Jamie xx on upcoming album Take Care, it appears that not only does Drake know his way round the UK sub-bass scene, but that he is intent on either appealing to those who shun the mainstream. Either that, or he's intent on bringing the sound some of it's deserved popularity. In our opinoin, it's a risk worth taking. Hats off to Drake for stepping up to the plate!
