Dr. Dog is a band I can count on. They fool around with genre, go bold with harmonies, and the result is consistently listenable and frequently excellent.
"Old Black Hole," the first track off their upcoming album
Be The Void (out February 7), displays the band's propensity for flexibility, all in the course of the one song. Starting out with bass and drum lines that drip with dark, dank fuzzy funk sounds (in a good way, of course), the song crescendos into a fast-tempoed gospel-laced celebration, with a rushing organ and a beat crying out for an accompanying choir.
Old school, original, and excellent "” yup, sounds like Dr. Dog, alright.
