Why do we like this?
Emo music has resonated with me for a long time now. From the heyday of bands like Mineral, Texas Is the Reason, and Taking Back Sunday, it's something that's managed to stick with me since my teens. I don't know if it's because of my own lack of self-confidence, or just anxiousness and awkwardness, but I just instantly feel better when I hear somebody singing about how I'm feeling inside. Thankfully, bands like Dowsing are still soothing the awkward teenager inside of me with their song "Get Weird."
A few months ago, the Chicago emo purists released their third full-length LP, I Don't Care Anymore, via Count Your Lucky Stars Records. The album is filled with teenage angst and jangly guitars, but the track that really stands out is "Get Weird." It's a straight throwback to The Get Up Kids' album Red Letter Day -- complete with tag teaming guitars, rising drum fills, and emotion meant to be worn right on the sleeve.
It will take you straight back to that time you told someone "I love you." Sweaty palms, cracking voice, and a complete out of body experience that can be described as nothing but being weird. Especially waiting for that moment to see what they say back, waiting to be absolutely crushed or completely filled with elation.
It's definitely a thin line between love and heartbreak.
