Why do we like this?

An award winning photographer and music lover, newcomer Dolly Ave has just released her inspiring debut single "Birds."

A minimal R&B joint, "Birds" deals with Ave's struggles with mental illness, as the Asian-American croons, "At some point you will learn / To find the legs to run."

The soulful track is accompanied by a film clip directed by Josh Daniel Taylor and Darren Bui, featuring Ave singing in numerous locations, including her bedroom and the inside of a car. Speaking on the song Ave says:

Like a warm hug after being hit with a cold water balloon, 'Birds' is a hand to hold, a cry for help, a careful voice reminding you that you're not alone.

This is a wonderfully melancholy release from Ave, showcasing a talent to keep your eyes on.
