It's easy to get sucked into the dizzying dream-wave sound of this track. Admittedly, Dog Orchestra pulled me into their atmosphere of buzzy synths and off-kilter vocals, rendering me unable to register what was actually being said.
It wasn't until I heard them sing "sushi rolls" that I started paying attention. If you stay afloat and listen to the lyrics, you'll find cleverly strung words atop the wavering sounds of "Broke."
"Broke" paints a picture of materialism, shedding light on the way physical possessions may hold power over us. The vocal track uses intonation to place emphasis on the word "need," attesting to the perceived necessity of inert objects. It's uniquely executed, thought-provoking, and has a gorgeously gauzy melody throughout.
