New "it" bands often arrive with much fanfare before drifting off into the ether, but Sydney trio DMA's look like they're in for the long haul if the release of "Lay Down" is anything to go by.
The first single taken from their long-awaited debut LP is another cracking tune channeling early 90s Brit pop with a dash of Australian swagger.
Produced and recorded by Johnny Took (guitarist in the band) and Dylan Adams in a cramped studio in Coogee, "Lay Down" revives memories of The Stone Roses in their prime. The jangly lead guitar licks of Matt Mason interweave with Took's visceral playing, while Tommy O'Dell's understated vocal delivery is a highlight once again.
"Lay Down" is a worthy addition to DMA's growing song catalogue, making the wait for their debut album even more palpable.
