Sydney boys DMA's have had the kind of career run that most acts only dream of. They were notoriously signed to local legends I OH YOU before they'd ever even played a gig, their debut single “Delete” was instantly added to heavy radio rotation, they played to a packed crowd at their very first Splendour in the Grass Festival, and they've been championed by the likes of NME, Rolling Stone and Dave Rowntree (Blur).
Phwoar.
There's so much hype that there's hype about the hype.
And although I'm extremely sceptical about such things, it only takes one listen to to understand why these guys are so popular.
Hot off the press, new single “So We Know” is simple and stripped back. Simple strums, simple melody.
There's a smattering of sparse taps and beats scattered throughout, but the track almost solely features acoustic guitar and vocals.
The melody is ripe with sentimentality, and you can really get lost in the intimacy of it all. Tommy O'Dell's vocals are mesmerising. They pierce right through -- especially on a raw track like this, with nowhere to hide.
DMA's are releasing a 7" featuring "So We Know" and as-yet-unreleased "Laced" on November 14.
