He’s proven to be the true breakout character on screen and it’s safe to say his solo debut performs in the same manner.
You may have seen him in Netflix’s TV series, Stranger Things, fighting demogorgons as the iconic Steve Harrington or have heard him prior to this single in the rock band Post Animal. Joe Keery, performing under the stage name Djo, delivers once again but this time it’s not on screen it’s in your headphones...or air pods.
His debut single “Roddy” softly trickles into your ears as the introduction begins, but quickly dives deep into the world of alternative and psychedelic rock where genre borders are eagerly crossed.
“So come right inside, welcome to my new life,” sings Djo, politely gesturing to continue listening and you’ll be glad you did. At 2:40, the song shifts gears transforming into layers of vocal edits and spacious synthesizers. It’s almost as if you entered into another world, perhaps the “Upside Down” of this refreshing single.
