DJ Soko's name only gives a partial glimpse into his abilities. A DJ in the communal sense, someone who organizes people around them through sound, he's long been a dot-connector in the Midwest/East Coast hip-hop world.
His debut album, Domino Effect, drops August 21, but today we're premiering "Soko Flow." The eponymous track features a trio of lesser known but hard-hitting MCs.
His own imprint, Left of Center, describes the project in the following way:
"DJ Soko uses his years coming up in the Detroit scene, his experiences DJ’ing in his current home (the planet of Brooklyn, NY) then blends both of those worlds together seamlessly. The end result is a gritty, boom bap rap album that is equally as soulful and introspective as it is rooted in a blue collar lyrical hip-hop aesthetic. “Domino Effect” is ultimately brought together by Soko’s deft cuts and scratches which elevate each composition and make them."
