Why do we like this?
This is without a doubt the most unique thing that I've shared on Indie Shuffle. Where should we begin? Well, how about with the familiar...
Dirtwire is a side project of two individuals: David Satori, who happens to be part of Beats Antique (you'll probably be familiar with them -- perhaps through this banjo cover of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky"), and Evan Fraser of Stellamara. They're both established, Western artists.
Enter Konger-ol Ondar, a throat singer from Tuva, an area in Russia just south of Siberia. The art itself is one of the oldest in the world; a style in which one or more pitches sound simultaneously over a fundamental pitch (Wikipedia). Kongar-ol received a fair bit of attention when he appeared on The Letterman Show a little while back, and by chance Evan was invited to join him on mouth harp during a private performance in Marin, CA. The two quickly bonded, and that very night Kongar-ol joined Evan to record vocals in David's home studio.
Unfortunately Kongar-ol passed away early last year at only 51 years of age, but his memory lives on through the music. Grab your free download of "Taiga" here, and be sure to catch Dirtwire on tour for the dates below.
