Inching ever so slowly toward the release of his debut album, Dijon's most recent release is a new look for the heart-aching LA crooner. Well, maybe not thematically, but stylistically it sure is something to behold.
Known for his expressive R&B over fairly minimalist or lo-fi instrumentals, "CRYBABY :*(" flips the script and adds in vocal layering, shouting, and harmonizing to give the music an oomph that Dijon's never quite had before. There's an incredible moment every time the chorus kicks in where Dijon transitions from softly lamenting the trials of a relationship to loudly and aggressively delivering the line, "But I don't mind if you see me cry," leading into a romantic relapse while literally crying out to his lover. He's raw, he's emotional, and he's certainly on the path of R&B stardom.
