Why do we like this?
Here's one for all you folk fans. Cited as an inspiration by the likes of Devendra Banhart and Florence Welch (i.e. Florence of Florence + The Machine), she's a Virginia-based singer-songwriter who makes superb self-produced sounds. Some call her "anti-folk," while Antony Hegarty (of Antony & The Johnsons) touts she is "a virtuosic talent with an emotionality that feels at once ancient and alien." She's got what you could call folk/pop street cred.
Really into this teaser to her new album, Boneset. It's an easy-going guitar piece, punctuated though by distinct vocals, a violin, and what sounds like a glockenspiel for a tad at the end. I'm taken with the variety.
A new addition to the Crash Avenue crew, you can learn more about her work on her website. Album comes out March 4, 2014. Not to miss.
